The top 3 ‘anyone-can-do-it’ hairstyles you need to know for party season

While we all fantasise about having a live-in personal hairstylist à la the Kardashian/Jenner clan, you don’t need to sit in a hairdresser’s chair for two hours to get good hair. With party season just around the corner – and while we’re trying to resist the urge to pull out of events last minute and watch Netflix instead – simple and easy are the real winners when it comes to hair styling.

Whether you’re, ahem, limited when it comes to skills or just feeling lazy - we all have our days - here are three hairstyles that anyone can do and that you should bookmark for the party season. They’re an easy way to elevate your go-to outfit or add the finishing touch to a new one. The best part? They look both effortless and impressive at the same time.

The top knot bun

It’s perfect for all hair lengths, it’s a versatile style that’s easy for the uncoordinated and the messier it is, the better it looks. What’s not to love about the ultimate lazy girl hairstyle?

Step one

Brush your hair up into a high ponytail using the Evo Pete Iconic Paddle Brush. Loop the ponytail through your hair tie - Evo’s Mister Fantastic Hair Bungee is great for thick hair as it holds super tight but doesn’t pull - but stop halfway through pulling the hair through, leaving the ends out. Voilà! You have a bun.

Step two

Split the ends into two. Twist each one and bobby pin around the base of the bun.

Step three

Spritz your bun with some Evo Salty Dog Salt Spray to add that ‘I woke up like this’ texture.

Tip

You can also go for a half up, half down top knot for a more relaxed look - it’s also a great alternative for the ladies who have shorter hair. Just put half your hair up in a ponytail rather than all of it and put a soft wave in the bottom half with a curling iron like the Silver Bullet Celebrity Curls Triple Curling Iron. Add some statement earrings and you’re good to go.

The twisted ponytail

This one actually looks much more complicated than it is so don’t let that scare you. The detailing of the twist elevates an ordinary ponytail into something a bit more special, plus you don’t have to spend hours removing tonnes of bobby pins when you get home. We’ve all been there and it’s not fun.

Step one

Separate your hair into three sections – two at the side and one at the back. Secure the back section into a low-to-mid height ponytail using the Evo Mister Fantastic Hair Bungee.

Step two

Taking one of the side sections, split into two and twist around each other. When you reach the ponytail, wrap around and secure the end with a bobby pin or clip underneath the base.

Step three

Repeat with the other side.

Step four

Gently pull on the twists to mess it up a little. Spritz some De Lorenzo Elements Ocean Mist on the ponytail for a beachy finish and give your twists a quick spray of Evo’s Miss Malleable Flexible Hairspray to make it dancefloor proof.

The waterfall braid

Perfect for those blessed with long hair, the waterfall braid is one of those seriously impressive styles always proves to be a talking point and will make sure you get at least a couple of compliments. Again it’s one that looks more complicated than it actually is. The final result is romantic and pretty, and can also be incorporated into updos for a little extra detail.

Step one

From your chosen part, take the front section and split into two. Pull the section at the front of your face over the second, so it’s going in the direction of the back of your neck.

Tip

If you’ve washed your hair the night before or want a little extra texture and hold, give it a spray of our holy grail product: Evo Water Killer Dry Shampoo.

Step two

Take a new section of the same size and braid it over the strand you’ve just pulled away from your face.

Step three

Drop that third section so it falls through the twist you’ve just created. This gives it the ‘waterfall’ effect.

Step four

Take the bottom section of hair and braid it over the current waterfall section. Bring in a new section over that one and let it fall down to become the new ‘waterfall’.

Step five

Repeat until you reach the length you want. This could be midway or complete one side of your head. Secure the final one with a bobby pin or clip.

Step six

Run a pea sized amount of Joico K Pak Color Therapy Dry Oil Spray through your hair for added shine and to eliminate any flyaways.
